Dev Update: Building Plans Are Now on Every Job Card

TL;DR: You can now draw building plans and floor layouts directly on your job cards. It's available for everyone, turned off by default — enable it in Settings when you need it.

Dev Update: Building Plans on Job Cards

A client recently reached out with a great request: they needed a way to sketch out building plans and floor layouts right inside their job cards. Think door placements, electrical points, bathroom fixtures — the kind of quick visual reference that saves a dozen back-and-forth messages on site.

We loved the idea. So much so that we decided not to build it as a one-off custom feature.

Why We're Rolling It Out to Everyone

Here's the thing — when a feature makes this much sense, it shouldn't be locked behind a custom development invoice. If we built this exclusively for one client, the full cost of development would fall on them alone. That's not how we think things should work.

Instead, we've rolled it out as a platform feature available to every CROOH organisation. The client who requested it gets exactly what they need, and every other team who could benefit from drawing plans on their job cards gets it too — at no extra cost.

One request. Everyone benefits. That's how a platform should work.

What You Can Do With It

The new Plans tab on your job cards gives you a full drawing canvas with tools built for the job:

  • Lines & walls — single lines, double lines (for walls), dashed lines, and dotted lines
  • Shapes — rectangles, circles, and freehand drawing
  • Text labels — add room names, measurements, or notes anywhere on the plan
  • Industry-standard symbols — over 25 built-in architectural symbols across 7 categories:
    • Doors & windows
    • Bathroom fixtures
    • Kitchen elements
    • Electrical points
    • Structural elements
    • HVAC components
    • Furniture
  • Custom SVG symbols — upload your own symbols if the built-ins don't cover what you need
  • Select, move & rotate — every element can be repositioned and rotated after placement
  • Multiple plans per job card — create as many drawings as you need
  • Works on mobile — plans are saved as SVG files, so they display cleanly on the mobile app without any changes needed

It's not trying to replace proper CAD software. It's the quick sketch you'd normally do on the back of a napkin — except it's saved to the job card, visible to your whole team, and doesn't end up in the washing machine.

It's Off by Default

We know not every business needs drawing tools on their job cards. A plumbing company might love it. An IT support team probably won't.

So we've kept it off by default. No clutter, no confusion.

When you're ready to use it, here's how to turn it on:

  1. Go to Settings in your admin panel
  2. Find the Job Card Features section
  3. Toggle Plans on
  4. That's it — a new "Plans" tab will appear on all your job cards

While you're there, you'll also notice toggles for Stock and Dependencies — same idea. Turn on what you need, leave off what you don't.

What's Next

We're continuing to refine the drawing tools based on feedback. If there's a symbol category you'd like to see added, or if you have thoughts on how the drawing experience could be better, let us know.

This is exactly the kind of feature that gets better when more teams use it and tell us what they need.

Got feedback? Reach out at support@crooh.co.za — we'd love to hear how you're using it.
